Article: Make your swimwear last longer with these tips

Make your swimwear last longer with these tips

Keep it simple when it comes to looking after your swimwear. This will make your bikinis last much longer by keeping the elasticity and colour. Follow these easy care instructions as soon as you next take your bikini off to start noticing the difference.

  1. Rinse after each use: Rinse your swimwear in cool, clean water immediately after each use. This helps remove chlorine, salt, sunscreen, and other chemicals that can damage the fabric over time.

  2. Hand wash: Gently hand wash your swimwear with a mild detergent, if required. Avoid using harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners as they can break down the fibres and elasticity of the fabric.

  3. Avoid wringing or twisting: After washing, gently squeeze out excess water from your swimwear without wringing or twisting it, as this can stretch and distort the fabric.

  4. Dry flat: Lay your swimwear flat or hand it to dry in a shaded area away from direct sunlight.

Additional tips:

  • Avoid machine drying: Never tumble dry your swimwear in a machine dryer, as the heat can damage the fabric and elastic fibres.
  • Keep away from rough surfaces: Avoid sitting on rough surfaces like concrete or rocks while wearing your swimwear, as they can cause snags or abrasions.
  • Rotate your swimwear: Avoid wearing the same swimsuit every day. Rotate between multiple swimsuits to give each one time to recover its shape and elasticity.
  • Avoid contact with sunscreen and oils: Sunscreen and oils can stain and degrade the fabric of your swimwear. Try to apply these products before putting on your swimsuit, and wash your swimsuit promptly after exposure.
  • Be cautious with hot tubs: Chlorine and high temperatures in hot tubs can accelerate the breakdown of swimwear fabric. Rinse your swimsuit thoroughly after use in a hot tub.
  • Store properly: Store your swimwear flat in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Avoid folding or bunching your swimwear, as this can cause creases that may be difficult to remove.
