Happy Earth Day!
As a sustainable brand, we love celebrating Earth Day! This years theme is 'Restore Our Earth' and is focused on sharing knowledge to prevent the coming disasters of climate change and environmental destruction.
The quote above is from @greengirlleah and it inspired us to raise awareness of sustainability in many different ways this year. A sustainable planet cannot exist without sustainable people, with gentle carbon footprints and caring attitudes. It includes looking after our minds and bodies, being healthy and active, looking after our communities/local areas, supporting green businesses and so so much more.
Here's our top 10 ways to live a more sustainable life:
Commit to Meditate More
Meditation can help you make more mindful choices and decrease mindless consumerism. Further to this, studies show that practicing meditation improves sleep by increasing your melatonin by at least 98% so you'll have more energy to make ethical choices (which can sometimes be more time consuming). Here are a few more ways in which meditation can help improve your sustainable lifestyle.
Spend Time Outdoors
Mother nature really is the ultimate healer. Studies show that even just 20 minutes per day spent in nature can lower stress hormone levels, boost self-esteem and improve mood.
Indulge in Self-care
Have you ever taken the time to read your self care labels? Earlier in the year we saw the Toxic Beauty documentary, which revealed certain skin care products containing unregulated toxic chemicals. Here's a list of the 10 chemicals to check for and ditch in your beauty products.
Notice Your Daily Consumption Habits
Slow down and nourish your body by buying high-quality foods and avoiding meals on-the-go in disposable plastic containers. Limit buying fast-fashion items gradually by investing in one high-quality item that you'll love forever over three that will last a season. Here is a beautiful article about self-care and the planet.
Support Local and Sustainable Communities
Start or Participate in a Local Litter Pick
Did you know that nearly 2 million pieces of litter are being dropped daily in the UK? Make a change by organising a litter picking event or help out by taking a spare bag with you on walks.
Study Who Uou Shop From
Do you currently shop from ethical and environmentally friendly brands? It may be challenging to do a complete switch but commit to swap a few of your future purchases to better brands. Check out how ethical and sustainable your favourite brands are and maybe find some new ones on the Good On You brand rating checker.
Share Your Top 3 Local and/or Green Brands on Social
Word of mouth is so important, especially for smaller brands that are passionate about making a difference. Share on your social media your favourite companies to help build their presence.
Here is a small list of some of my favourite green brands:
Support the Planet
Take a Scan of Your Home and See What Improvements You Can Make
Are there any lights or gadgets that you can turn off? Is your tumble dryer on when you can air-dry your clothes instead? Do you have a compost bin? These small changes all add up! Here are some more ways to make your home more eco-friendly.
Visit Local Places to Avoid Using the Car or Transport
Walk or cycle to your local shops and restaurants. Not only does this help your local community but reduces pollution and emissions! The more people that opt to walk or cycle also creates a need for more green spaces which helps to boost biodiversity.
Sign Petitions and Donate if You Can
Change.org has so many petitions you can sign for free (with an option to donate if you can). Not only does this help make the world a better place but it makes you feel good too!
Which ways will you be supporting the planet going forward?
